Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over some of the material she had for homework. She read the material twice and had a very good grasp of what was important and what the book was trying to convey. We mainly discussed the evolution of organisms from the different kingdoms and how bacteria work and replicate. In addition to covering the usual material, we also dissected a worm from one of the lab kits that she has. In addition to this we went bug, leaf, and other small object collecting to look under a microscope next time. We also played with magnetic sand, looked at some cool microscope slides that were provided in the science kit, and built a working motor from a D battery, some paper clips, and a few wires."
"Today the student and I began reviewing for his upcoming final exam. We went over some practice problems for rotational kinematics, and reviewed questions that he had missed on previous exams this semester."
"In our final session we spent time reviewing several free response questions and a series of multiple choice questions. The student did very well with all of the questions and will be in good shape on Monday when she takes the AP exam."
"The student and I worked on her homework problems and did practice questions for her quiz. We also worked ahead and covered the next sections dealing with Hess's Law and Heat of Reactions. We also finished her math homework which focused on combinations and permutations."
"Today we reviewed voltage, current, electric fields, and circuits in depth. We covered Ohm's law and learned how to use it to solve circuits problems. We also reviewed the definition of resistors and how to solve simple circuits. We then did a handful of practice questions to hone in on our skills."
"We covered the synthesis, oxidation, and reduction of aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, alcohols, amines, and imines. We went through a few practice problems of each mechanism, along with some Grignard reagent synthesis problems. The student was initially struggling with getting some of the reagents aligned with the correct product, but he seemed to be doing much better at the end of the appointment. He was very appreciative of the material covered. He has a test tomorrow and feels more comfortable. This is the first session and will be the baseline for his performance in the class."
