Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered test taking strategies, reviewed science notes, went over mnemonic device strategies, vocabulary building discussion and discussed Animal Farm."
"In Math we worked on solving and graphing inequalities. The student can solve them easily provided that she stays focused. She had a hard time graphing them initially, but caught on at the end. In English we just needed to define some vocabulary words and provide definitions for them."
"This session began with a review of chapter three in math. This included dozens of example problems, practice problems, and practice test questions to complete without assistance. He didn't struggle with the complexity of the topic (manipulating and solving for variables), but he instead struggled to learn these topics on introductory problems because he could solve them mentally. This forced us to discuss and apply these principles to longer and more difficult problems. Although this prolonged the learning process, it ended up being successful. Although he completed the majority of his English homework, we spent the remainder of the session working on the partially completed American history homework (chapter 4)."
"The student is still unsure about his expectations and assignments in school. We reviewed all of the assignments for today and last week to find that he still had some outstanding. Today he did an assignment for his social studies class focusing on map reading. I showed him where the details are important and how to better read the map keys. He will finish the assignment to his programming class on his own. I think it was good for him to look at the upcoming assignments and habitually make time in his day for organizing his academic expectations."
"Today, we reviewed math homework focused on comparing similar shapes using proportions to find an unknown variable. I checked over most of the homework. The student also completed a social studies assignment related to WWI. Overall, he had a positive attitude and worked diligently on his homework."
"Today, the student and I began by reviewing her online school portal and checking that assignments/due dates matched up with her notes in her planner. She completed her math first, and we discussed edits for her history paper that is due tomorrow."
