Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed how to solve different types of algebraic problems involving the use of trig identities. For the most part, he was good at picking which identity to use and applied the identity correctly, but he had more difficulties in simplifying expressions, particularly when they involved fraction multiplication and division. We reinforced basic concepts behind simplifying and combining algebraic expressions."
"The student and I reviewed periodic functions for both sines and cosines. He was very engaged in the hands-on aspect of the tutoring session and was able to quickly grasp the determination of the intrinsic characteristics of the sine and cosine periodic functions (e.g., amplitude, period, phase shift, and vertical shift)."
"The student and I reviewed the current topic on trigonometric functions, and did practice problems from each section. He has a much better hold on the class right now, and wants to focus on reviewing for his final. He worked with various trig functions to prove theorems, and to find values and areas."
"The student and I reviewed topics from chapter 8. The primary focus was on arithmetic and geometric sequences. He had completed most of his review questions, which allowed him to ask me questions on the specific ones that were troublesome. We discussed a way to remember the sum of arithmetic sequence formula, and I suggested that he could benefit from writing out all of the nth term and sum of sequence equations 20 times each, to help him remember them for the test. I will be emailing him the link to a math website that is very helpful, and he will be emailing me his review packet, and working on that until we meet again next week."
"The student and I reviewed trigonometric properties, double angles, half angles, trigonometric identities for sum and differences of angles, and solving trigonometric quadratic equations involving half angles and double angles. She has a good grasp of the concepts and should master them with more practice."
"The student and I spent a decent part of her session practicing piecewise functions. This practice allowed us to also explore different classifications of functions, as well as help her get more comfortable with the topic."
