"We did some practice tests mainly on math today, which Student 1 feels she needs more help with than Student 2. She is doing incredibly well so far, however, and mainly needs to speed up her geometry problem solving. In order to make sure Student 1 and Student 2 stay equally up to speed, we agreed to switch to one hour of focus on each student for our next session on Tuesday."
"The student and I covered the Reading and Writing sections of the SAT. We continue to make progress on the Reading section,. We started the grammar section, and she did extremely well. She has a good grasp of grammar, and I was able to teach her several rules. The most difficult questions are the ones related to "idioms," since she's a non-native English speaker, but we're working on it. For homework, she has 2 reading sections and 1 grammar section."
"The student and I focused on the ACT math section, as he feels confident in the other sections, but still struggles with math. While the student has made some progress so far on his math abilities in our sessions, I introduced some new ways to study and prepare other than simply doing practice problems. We looked up a good summary of ACT math formulas, so he can print it off or make flashcards. He has some understanding of the equations, but I feel like he can benefit from studying these formulas for a short amount of time every day. Also, during our session, we made note of especially difficult topics for the student, so that he can try practice problems later. We continued to grind through math problems from his ACT book, and on questions that he did not understand very well, I often made up similar problems so that he could "redo" the problem himself. He did well when I drew up these extra problems, so I like the idea of using more repetition during our sessions for him to absorb the material. I left him with more math practice to do, as well as a few passages from the other sections."
