Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student asked to do maximizing and minimizing volumes problems. He had two problems, so I found about a dozen additional problems. We worked these and discussed them. He did very well on them. Then, we created a fifth degree MacLaurin polynomial to approximate f(x) = sin(x) because that is the next topic he is going into."
"The student came to the lesson very focused and worked very diligently. We focused on two worksheets that he received from class. He became a bit more confident with some of the problems as we worked through them, but he struggled when attempting to complete a new similar problem by himself. We will continue to work on this throughout our sessions as well as getting him familiar with the material."
"The student completed 12-word problems from a homework assignment. Our first priority is to get and keep him up to date on his assignments. This is the quickest way for him to improve his grades. The second priority is a combination of improving his math skills and prep him for upcoming tests. He works very hard, and these are intense sessions. I broke up this session by playing the card game Uno with him. He will be accessing his grades on a regular basis now--at least during his tutoring sessions."
"The student completed a learning sheet that she had due for homework on Monday. We also reviewed material from the start of the school year, because this was the first session, and her dad wanted me to start from the basics."
"The student completed a lesson on composite figures, and we completed her school test review on unit rates, rate of change, slope, and writing equations. She compared how to find an equation from a table, graph, and ordered pair, and reviewed the rules for functionality. She felt better about the material, and much more prepared for her upcoming test, after we reviewed together. She did a great job."
"The student completed a math homework assignment on rate of change. Then I introduced the concept of slope on a graph, and we practiced fraction skills. She completed a science quiz, and did very well. Her attitude was positive. She got 100% on her last math test!"
