Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed her previous chapter because she has a test tomorrow. She had a list of questions to ask me and we went through the answers. We then did the review in the back of the chapter, thoroughly discussing questions she did not know the answers to. We then did the online review. She felt much more positive about the test on Monday after we reviewed."
"The student took reading comprehension practice tests for the ISEE. We reviewed test taking strategies, and discussed how to edit and expand his rough draft of the practice essay he previously wrote. A handout was provided to the student for study, regarding common root Greek and Latin words used in English."
"The student and I began studying for her PreCal final today. We worked our way through transformations of functions, types of functions, and composite functions. We also started on angle measures and trig functions."
"Today, we worked on math practice problems. We worked on reading and underlining words that are important such as estimate, difference, product, etc. We also worked on a short reading passage and answered questions related to sequencing."
"The student and I had a great session today, overall. We worked more on multiplication. We will work more in the future on really "drilling" the multiplication tables. We also began work in her new math section, which is going to be introducing/dealing with decimals (she did well on her unit 9 assessment, yay!). We also did a little spelling practice. Additionally, we completed a reading comprehension assignment. We then began our main task of working on writing a folktale (she is currently learning about folktales in class). She has already drafted an idea (characters, problem, solution, moral). We will work Wednesday on writing the actual folktale."
"The student started by discussing her experience with a previous in-class LSAT prep course and her performance on the September LSAT. We discussed her perceived weakest points on the exam and where she feels she struggles the most. We then went through some of the Reading Comprehension questions on the September exam to try to diagnose where she is struggling with those questions. We moved to fresh Reading Comprehension questions as well. We finished by setting a tentative schedule for the remaining five weeks before the December exam. I gave her some additional practice questions and information to review She is going to complete a full practice exam and some additional practice questions before next Thursday. We will continue to work on Reading Comprehension next week, focusing primarily on specific techniques, strategies, and identifying question types."
