Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over her packet for her geometry class. Her teacher assigned her a few problems from the packet, of which he passed out that day. We went over these problems as well as a few from her first packet that she was having trouble with."
"The student completed his Pythagorean theorem standard in class this past week. We worked on the standards for 2 problems involving similar triangles and another for cutting a line segment into congruent pieces using a straightedge and compass. The student is getting much better at working on problems instead of waiting for an answer."
"We went over his current material in geometry which is graphing and determining slopes. Once explained in more detail he had a better handle on it and other than switching rise and run with run and rise he was doing quite well. He is expected to have a notecard made by our next session for slopes to help him memorize which way is correct. The homework problems that he had questions on were much more fluid once we had gone over the material."
"The student let me know that he got an A on a recent exam and has quiz on new concepts on Tuesday of this week. This session focused on using formulas and proportions to determine area and circumference of circles and sectors of circles, inscribed circles, and other shapes. He and I worked through a worksheet that covered most of these concepts as well as applying previous knowledge to find the area of triangles inscribed in a circle. The student had some difficulty with using proportions but ultimately came to an understanding. I encouraged him to try more practice problems and email me with any pressing questions before Tuesday."
"The student had some questions about 30 60 90 triangles. She had some great questions and asked a lot of clarifying and specific questions trying to understand the concepts fully and deeply. We did a few examples together, and after about 3 to 4 she was able to do the rest on her own. We talked about how pictures can help, but if doing multiple problems with a similar triangle, drawing a generic triangle can save time. She really showed some understanding of the concepts at the foundation and higher levels."
"Today's session went really well. We started working on new material from chapter 6 in the student's book which is a review of chapters 1-5. He is picking up on it quickly. Today he had a good attitude towards doing his homework. I focused on trying to get the student thinking about the material and getting him to use what he already knows to figure out the work."
