Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered section 3.7 and 3.8 on rate of change in application problems. The student needs to work more on some basics."
"Today we had a wrap up of derivatives, then we shifted gears toward test prep work for SAT math. I assigned the student a practice geometry test at the end of the session."
"We had an excellent session reviewing for the student's test. We went over word problems involving implicit differentiation."
"We solved problems on critical values and did some physics problems. My feeling is that we are often solving advanced problems without solving some of the basic problems. I would suggest the student solve as many easy problems as possible."
"We reviewed two of the student's past calculus quizzes. He made several mistakes because he didn't read all of the directions to know the initial value, and also got distracted by the word problem and didn't realize what the question was asking. After discussing each problem and talking about the keywords, he knew the correct approach and could explain his reasoning. We also looked at finding the area between two curves as a function of x and y, which he understood well."
"The student and I covered solving for the antiderivative using u-substitution. She found this to be a bit confusing at first, but after I explained one problem, she instantly understood the process. She had fun solving the problems and she already had quite a few problems from school so I didn't bother to give her any extra problems; instead I gave her specific questions from the school problems to do. Generally, it was a great session."
