Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we spent the majority of our time reviewing proportions before shifting our focus to sequences towards the end of the session. The student's greatest difficulty with the more challenging proportion problems is translating the words into math. This is particularly true with problems that have several different fractions to consider. A helpful strategy for her seems to be picking particular numbers when possible so that the problem is transformed into dealing with quantities instead of proportions. I have asked her to complete a practice GRE prior to our next session to assess the progress that we have made."
"The student and I continued with practice GRE math problems. I also created a worksheet covering radicals and exponents. Through this worksheet, we were able to identify concepts that needed to be reviewed. I feel that he continues to improve in his ability to think critically and solve the practice problems."
"The student and I did one last round of questions. We looked at average velocity, combinatorics, rules of exponents, the binomial distribution, and sequences. She takes her GRE in the next few days."
"The student and I have been working on her preparation for the GRE, specifically its quantitative section. We have met in three separate sessions, and I think it has gone well. We have been methodically going through the topics due to come up on the GRE -- arithmetic reasoning and skills, algebra, geometry, and data analysis (including counting-type problems, and probability and statistics)."
"The student and I met for the first time to begin preparing for the GRE. She had completed the Quantitative diagnostic test from the GRE practice problems. She had a lot of questions that we needed to go over. We spent all of our time going over those problems and any prerequisite concepts that would aid in completing them. She did really well in picking up new concepts or relearning old ones. She should see a lot of growth in her scores by the time we're done. We decided to meet at the same place and time for next week."
"The student and I met yesterday to continue reviewing for the GRE. We started the session with a few questions that he had from a practice test that he had taken and then we moved on to discussing exponent questions since this is an area that he wanted to spend a little extra time reviewing."
