Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today I helped the student correct his last exam, and explained limit, derivative concepts. We got everything accomplished."
"We discussed SSAT exam material. We also discussed 3d shapes and equations, probability questions, sequence questions, and logic and set theory questions."
"Tonight, we covered interpolation from the first derivative of a function, what are the critical points and the general shape for the original function."
"Today we did homework practice. Including derivatives, differentials, business functions such as marginal revenue function R'(x) marginal cost function C'(x). Then average cost function CBAR(x) = C(x)/x and marginal average cost function. Also product rule, quotient rule, derivative of base to power x. The student is showing constant improvement in calculations of derivatives."
"Today, we continued to review derivative rules and spent most of the session working through implicit derivation practice problems. This is more of an abstract concept and puts to use the previous day's concepts of the product rule, the quotient rule and the chain rule. After working through the practice problems, we moved on to applied uses for derivatives. This put the conceptual work we had been doing to practical use. The next few chapters involve specific real world uses of the derivative. It's my goal to work through those chapters in the next week and then spend our final week introducing the student to the concept of integrals."
"This was our last tutoring session since the student is taking her final on Friday. Today we reviewed using substitution when integrating functions and applying the second fundamental theorem of calculus. We spent the rest of the session reviewing all previous material for her final. These problems involved analyzing graphs, taking derivatives, finding limits, taking antiderivatives using different techniques, and computing integrals. She is well prepared for her final and I have no doubt she will receive a good grade."
