Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I had a short session focused around the new topics he is currently covering in his class. We addressed quadratic functions, including the quadratic formula, as well as standard vs. vertex form. All of these techniques will be extremely valuable in the coming months for his class and for SAT prep."
"We discussed the basics of expressions. We reviewed error diagnosis and correction, talked about the basics of the imperative programming model, and used the homework to progress through these topics. We talked about the feature/cost trade off of selecting data types and explored the role of tuples in resolving the return or assignment of multiple values."
"We went over measuring triangles and finding congruent sides and angles. The student has no problem with these concepts and breezed through the homework showing an understanding of the subject with little assistance. I really enjoyed working with him. I'm sure he will do great."
"The student and I reviewed his math homework (2.11) which featured 3 and 4 digit multiplication problems. He seemed to have a good grasp on estimation and multiplying numbers. In future sessions, we will continue to practice his basic multiplication facts as often as possible to increase his multiplication fact fluency."
"The student and I worked on Chapter 7.2 - trigonometric integrals. He got stuck on a couple problems, which just boiled down to applying the right formula from trig identities. Once he got the hang of that, it was smooth sailing."
"Today the student worked on several reading skills. We began by reading through one chapter of The Great Big Giant. I asked him to use context clues to think of a legitimate word we could use to replace any made-up word the giant used. He also corrected any grammar errors in the giant's speech. He then looked at the next skill highlighted in the close reading packet we have been using. In this case, he had to identify literal and nonliteral language in a reading, and explain the meaning of any non-literal text. This took some effort on his part, but he was able to complete the exercises accurately."
