Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had a great deal of English homework today. Her class has been reading a short booklet about Cesar Chavez. She had to answer a series of questions with a few paragraphs. This required her to look for answers in her reading and formulate responses that were pertinent to the question."
"Today we reviewed HW: 1. self-introduction in Pinyin (very good writing and grammar) 2. map direction (fully memorize all rooms) 3. Pin yin quiz (43/59) 4. Word Quiz (7/9) Then we worked through the new lesson (student, teacher, classmate, school) and how to use direction words. The student's writing is getting better after she used practice books."
"Today the student completed two worksheets related to basic addition and subtraction problems involving fractions and number sense. He continues to require support when finding common denominators and when simplifying expression. He also practiced his science presentation. He was able to elaborate on details and give a four minute presentation. Finally, he and I worked on editing his research paper. He is working on verb tense and transitions while writing."
"We prepped for an upcoming geometry test. The student's biggest problem was remembering vocabulary and applying it to basic questions as well as algebraic equations. I had him create a cheat sheet that clearly defined all the terms and concepts he needed to master so that he could see himself writing them and improve retention. The method worked as we did one last run through of all the problems we went over. We spent the rest of the session going over textbook review problems."
"We quickly went over Algebra and Chemistry review. The student is very good at matrices and systems of equations and favors Chemistry. So we did a PSAT prep. For the PSAT or even any standardized test, it is about exposure to the types of problems they give you. So I suggested going over a couple of problems in the practice everyday. Especially understanding how the test makers think of the easy, medium, and hard questions. The practice test available is good. The student got a 93 on their math test! The student is doing well, he gets out of focus every now and then, but he is able to complete problems."
"We reviewed her progress by looking at her grades in Home Access Center. Her Intro to Business, Latin, Geometry and Physical Science grades all remained the same. She has a review packet for Math that she needs to complete and study for an assessment. I made vocabulary cards for her to begin studying her vocabulary words for her novel she will be reading in Literature. She says that her teacher has not assigned any reading of the novel yet. She also has a study guide on Nuclear Chemistry that she needs to complete and study for an assessment. She also has to study for a quiz in World History."
