Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, we reviewed the requirements of the student's research paper as we discussed the research question and the nature and measurement of the included variables. We also discussed the need to add another variable that is continuous. We then established the next steps for completing the paper, including summarizing the methodology of reference articles and including the demographics of the target population."
"During this session, we went over some math material. The first student has a test coming up on Tuesday, so we spent the time reviewing the practice problems given to him by his teacher, which covered graphing and factoring for the most part. As usual, he showed great understanding of the material, but needed some help in just a few places. The second student and I went over his homework, which consisted of factoring. He was definitely at the top of his game and barely needed my help, except with one problem which proved a little difficult, as it was a word problem. It was a great session."
"During this session, we worked on a worksheet provided by the student's teacher. The topics included the probability in a normal distribution and transforming means and standard deviations to compare variables. Overall, she did very well. However, I would recommend that she takes notes in her own words as well as what the teacher says. This way, when she looks back at her notes, she will understand them better as well as facilitate the learning process. By the end of the session, she seemed more confident with the material."
"During this session, we worked on improper fractions and mixed numbers. We also did an extensive review of adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators by finding the least common denominator. The student was very successful! We concluded the session with reading comprehension practice. Specifically, we worked on understanding cause and effect relationships in a text. He did a great job."
"During this session, we worked on the student's algebra 2 class with lessons involving finding zeros of polynomials, rational zeros of polynomials, and describing polynomial function graphs. The student was very receptive toward tutoring today and was taught how she could benefit from using the graphing calculator to help with many of the polynomial graphs. She is currently caught up on her work in the class."
"During this session, we worked on the student's math homework. The student understood the work for the most part, but he began to struggle when the problems became more complex. We also reviewed some concepts that he had trouble with during the last session, as well as basic fractions. He understands performing math operations with basic fractions, but he begins to have trouble when he has to perform more complicated math operations involving fractions. I encouraged him to show his work when working out his math problems so that he avoids making simple mistakes. We also worked on his writing skills. I gave him a writing prompt for him to practice organizing his thoughts before writing an essay. He participated and responded well throughout the essay."
