We went over new stories as well as some simple exercises from the Cambridge Latin course to test grammar and vocabulary. They are both doing a great job and very quickly pick up new Latin. The simple stories in this book seem to be helping them better grasp the language. I would really love it if for next week they could access the electronic copy.

We reviewed the items on the student's Latin review sheet. We went over the fun chants for personal pronouns, reviewed noun declensions via noun/ adjective pairs, and practiced basic translation and case function. He and I discussed study strategies for approaching his gigantic vocabulary list. He is going to go through it and check off words he knows and does not need to review. He will then take the words he does not know and write the dictionary definitions out in full several times (only one word at a time!). He will also do this for noun declension charts. He will do this only a few words at a time and take lots of breaks between groups of words (this helps students to remember them better). He has improved a lot on case function and is a verb pro.

The student completed his homework assignment due tomorrow. I reviewed the Latin words he had forgotten with him after he finished the assignment. We also went over some of the charts that he has to know for the exam. I asked him to review all the Latin vocabulary in chapters 1-9 in his book before our next session. These words are also on his flashcards.

As usual, the student worked on his written work for tomorrow and for Wednesday; new items include result clauses and the forms of the perfect active subjunctive. We also reviewed vocabulary for his quizzes tomorrow and Wednesday, and he has excellent recall of these words. His next test is not until a week from Wednesday. I again encouraged him to continue to prepare for his semester exam in the meantime.

Yesterday, we completed our translation of Daedalus and Icarus. In this session, we focused on understanding the text. Knowing what the story is saying will help the student in her translation. We made note of rhetorical devices and talked about how she can answer questions about them on the test. We talked about how she can prepare for the exam. She will take the lead on understanding vocabulary and history. I will work on helping her to be able to translate and recognize grammatical constructions and rhetorical devices in the text. For the next meeting (Friday), I will be bringing multiple copies of the text. Some will already be annotated; others we will mark-up as needed.
