Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I had a productive session preparing for her precalc test on Wednesday. We worked on inverse and one-to-one functions, exponential and log functions, and solving exponential and log equations. Once she was reminded of the concepts, she did well. We're working on her being able to recognize the concept and steps to take right away. Good work."
"The student and I had a very busy session on Thursday, during which we covered many details on graphing parabolas. We discussed how to graph quadratic equations that appear in several different forms. When we began our session, he was not clear about how to systematically approach these problems. But I believe that by the end of our session, he had a pretty strong concept of what steps to take. He completed all of his homework problems, and I believe that he is now up to speed on the course. I will plan to see him again on Sunday evening, when we will review for a quiz that he has next week and do some SAT practice as well."
"The student and I had our first session today, and she was great, very pleasant and eager to learn! I helped her prepare for tomorrow's quiz greatest common factors (GCF), factoring trinomials, and special case polynomials, like the sum and difference of perfect squares and cubes. We focused mainly on factoring trinomials, and to make this more understandable, I used the factoring by grouping model, which highlights the process in a natural way instead of learning it by rote. I suggested some types of problems to practice on her own near the end of our meeting."
"The student and I had our first session together. We did our best to review logarithms and properties of logs as well as graphing, them, etc. She has the word problems down."
"The student and I had our first short session today. It was very nice meeting her. I introduced her to some slightly more advanced algebra topics than the ones she was currently covering, including the equations of lines, slope, y-intercept, FOIL, and the distributive property. We are going to meet again soon and have laid out a regular schedule. It was a great session!"
"The student and I had our first tutoring session today. We focused in on her assigned Math homework. Upon speaking with her father, we came to the decision that moving forward, the student would be receiving assistance in Reading, Writing, and Math. She struggles with penmanship the most. She has a very positive attitude and tries her best. Visual learning will work best with her to keep her at a steady pace while completing math problems, writing, and reading. Moving forward, we will dedicate one session per week to math, and the second session per week to reading and writing."
