Today, the student and I focused on her upcoming final in AP World History. It is an open note final, so we spent the time making sure that all of her notes are complete, and purging the excess material from her notebook. As we were going through, we found several items incomplete, so she worked to get those to a useable state. I then suggested to her that she put everything in a binder and tab the notes, not by chapter, but by the material covered. This should help her get through her notebook quickly if she comes to a question that she does not know the answer to. It was a productive last session of the school year.

Today we continued working on the Revolutionary War homework. We discussed the significance of Lexington, Concord, and Benedict Arnold. The student will finish it as extra work before Wednesday. The student had finished his math homework at school with his teacher but he told me they were working on multiplying mixed number fractions, so I will give him some extra work with that as well.

Great session. The student started on index/flip cards that she will use to quiz herself for test. She reviewed video clips from links that I sent to her during session. She stated that the clips helped her understand certain concepts. I will create flashcards that will help her during her preparation. We will meet again tomorrow to continue prepping.

On Thursday, the student and I covered DBQs for extra credit (which he definitely needs to turn in next week). We were able to complete a lot of the DBQs. He's really able to get concepts once you get him to talk aloud about what he thinks or what he read. As far as strategies go, we covered ways to find the correct answer within DBQs (Student, if you're reading this, remember that when the DBQ asks for "one" answer within the text, you can probably find it in the middle. Just not the top or bottom of the hamburger bun). The student should underline parts of the text, but he said he doesn't like it. I tried mentioning that to him, that he should at least try underlining; he only needs to do it for the next two weeks.

Today, the student did her homework assignment for her social studies class about Civil Rights leaders. She had to research three leaders and she chose Malcolm X, Feng-Shen Ho, and Ruby Bridges, and she had to write a worksheet for all of them.

Our goal for this summer is for the student to be able to access and use information from his reading in order to succeed in academic course work. This evening we read some history from the Russian revolution, specifically Tsar Nicholas II. He will be thinking about when he will be available for sessions this summer, as well as finding some reading for entertainment, if only a half hour a day. I will send him the link for an article so he can finish reading it and respond.
