The student showed tremendous improvement with the vocabulary studying he did over the last week, and his practice test scores are going up! Today we just came up with a solid study plan for the next week, and I also gave a few strategies for the math sections (on which he performs well), i.e. shortening long division or arithmetic problems by eliminating answers off the bat, general test-taking strategies (like the fact that you should always guess) and emphasized the importance of using the scantron sheet correctly.

We briefly went over Algebra 1-2 homework, but spent most of session on Algebra 3-4 material. Topics included polynomial factoring, determining number/types of zeros, and solving for zeros. She made good progress in these areas and seems to grasp the concepts well.

We discussed statistical thermodynamics, the definition of internal energy, the theories of Dr. Lloyd Demetrius, the difference between weak and strong iteroparity. We also went over the definitions of robustness, flexibility, and redundancy as they apply to the theory of evolution by natural selection. The student learned how Demetrius' theory could be used to support the recent theory that human beings were primarily responsible for the extinction of mega-fauna like wooly mammoths and giant sloths.

After reviewing the homework, we went through the flashcards starting with the English side. This time, I asked her to describe the characters for me or to write them down, which helps her remember the structure, the stroke order, and the writing of each character. We then moved on to read the script without Pinyin. She used great analytic strategy to help her read through the sentences.
