How can a tutor help you with summer tutoring?

Varsity Tutors can help your child streamline their studying to suit their specific needs by finding them a skilled summer tutor in Warwick, RI, today. Regular study sessions over the summer are critical for your child to retain the knowledge that they gained during the school year. Students who don't study over the summer can take 6 weeks of the fall semester just to relearn what they forgot, ending up far behind their classmates. Over time, the learning deficit of students who don't study over the summer compared to those who do can reach 2 to 3 years. Fortunately, your child only needs to study 2 to 3 hours per week to prevent summer learning loss. Considering the benefits of summer study sessions, it makes sense to have your child work with a qualified tutor who can keep them on track. It will give them a big advantage over their fellow students once school starts up again.

We can help you find an expert summer tutor in Warwick, RI, who can design a study plan suited to your child's individual needs. The tutor will start by assessing your child, looking in particular for their preferred learning method. That way, the tutor can present material in a way that keeps your child engaged and learning as efficiently as possible. By knowing your child's educational needs, their tutor could build them a personalized study plan designed to try to improve on their strengths and fix up any weak points.

Warwick, RI Summer tutoring
I found some long division with decimals math problems online and the student worked on those. His strength is in math and he said he already knows how to do the math assigned in his classroom. Therefore, I selected some 8th grade math and he did a good job on those as well. He is reading one of the Wimpy Kids books and I found a study guide with comprehension questions that he will work on as he reads the book. He will also complete the assignment I gave him last week and have it ready when I see him again on Friday.

The student recently had a math test; she and I were both glad to see that it was a large improvement over her previous math test score. Today we practiced more math and continued reviewing history notes over World War II.

We actually mostly worked on one single math problem, but we spiraled into the merits of positive and negative numbers as they had to do with exponents. This was all en route to answering a simpler question about fractions having to do with exponents, but all of it will be immensely useful to the student. The goal there was to achieve a global understanding of exponents before hyper-focusing on just what the global rule means for exponents. The best way for all of this to be taught is by concrete example, so using numbers instead of variables. We can work through using variables to understand the concepts at play. We'll pick up on exponents, negatives, and fractions in our next session.

The student made an 83 on her history test!! There are several factors at work here: the teacher's style, her growing recognition that her grades matter, her ability to focus on something and get it done, that the classwork matches the lessons, and so on. Tonight, we worked on an assignment that was half-finished. There's a bit of time before the next test, but she was excited about finding the review games that her teacher supplies for each unit. It seemed that approach helped her and kept her interest, so I, too, can't wait to start using the next one to review. She's getting there, and I think having a good grade to show her that will help fuel her further.

The student and I reviewed his homework for English and Math. He did well, and I asked him to review a few questions on his own. He has a couple of upcoming group projects I will be in touch with him about. I left him with an essay assignment he chose for him to further practice his writing skills.
