Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered the renal system, sound waves, and the Doppler effect by completing passages during our session. Overall, she did well in most of the passages that we covered, and this was especially evident in the physics passages. She did have more trouble tackling questions in the renal system that included the JGMA, and the renin-angiotensin system. She particularly needed assistance for passages that concerned the latter topics, and will need to review this topic outside of our sessions. Going forward, I instructed her to please complete another practice exam by the next time we meet so that we may go over the exam together."
"We reviewed organic chem, biochem, and physics today. We began to work on the social concepts portion of the MCAT. The student is making measurable progress; when we started he was scoring in the low 60s on practice verbal testing. Now, he is scoring in the high 80s and low 90s."
"The student and I reviewed all four major algebra word problem strategies. She clearly understands the theory behind them, but will benefit from practicing the strategies. I assigned her Problem Solving 1 and 2. I also gave her set 7, which is geometry, so she can get re-acclimated to the area. Additionally, I gave her Data Sufficiency 3 to continue practicing the DS strategy."
"We worked on a physical science diagnostic exam and walked through the solution set. It covered mainly chemistry. We discussed equilibrium reactions, solubility constants, Keq, Q, delta G (Gibbs free energy), entropy, enthalpy, reaction rates, enthalpy of formation, etc. We also stressed the importance of pacing, of doing easier problems first and then the intermediate level problems, and of not spending too much time on any one question."
"We went over biology content mostly. She was having a more difficult time at first with the practice problems, but she started getting much better after we started going over content. I also gave her some reading and test-taking techniques to use for the MCAT. I believe that she was starting to understand the practice questions and that the content was coming back to her throughout the lesson."
"The student and I went over the bio section from her most recent practice exam. She scored a 124 but was strong in concepts related to biochemistry and metabolism. We discussed how to attack passages and highlight key words and phrases that might appear in the questions. She is going to review the rest of the exam on her own and take another practice exam before we meet on Friday."
