Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The session allowed me to determine if our conversations have boosted the student's ease in expressing herself in French, and I was happy to realize that they are fulfilling their objective successfully. We talked about her trips and plans for the rest of the summer and she expressed herself freely. It was very refreshing to see that, and we look forward to our next session, on Wednesday."
"We briefly worked on the student's project in imparfait. That concept is starting to sink in. She just needs to continue to practice using it, but she seems to understand the structure and when to use it. Her vocabulary for this unit went much better. She clearly studied it. One thing I did notice from her writing was that she did not know adjectives very well. This is something I've noticed over time, but did not really concern myself with since it wasn't something they focused on in class. But, at this point, I feel this is something she needs to know. We clearly need to spend some more time on it. This may be the root of any struggle she has in class. I'm going to give her some more study materials for that type of vocabulary and incorporate it into our practices."
"Today we prepped for the student's French test on Thursday. We covered vocabulary and grammar to make sure he has a firm understanding for the upcoming test. We went over his homework and some worksheets he did in class, and supplemented those with an online vocabulary quiz and some extemporaneous writing exercises at the end to practice grammar. The student has a good grasp on the material for his test on Thursday, and I think he will do great on the test."
"The student's class is continuing their work with the subjunctive. We spent the first part of our session reviewing the structure of subjunctive conjugations, and then tangentially branched into a review of passe compose vs imparfait and various irregular verbs. I think this review, though lengthy, was really useful; it seems like each time we come across one of these topics, her recall of it is getting better and better, which is great to see given that new material is continuously being added to the mix. We then turned our focus towards one of her current worksheets, which focuses on the choice of infinitive vs subjunctive for various sentences. She seems to have a good understanding of this topic and worked through a couple of examples well."
"The student had received his diction test back. He and I were both pleased with the results. His grades had improved from the 70's to the 80's. A huge percentage of the points he lost were from accent mistakes. Significantly less were from verb conjugations. We reviewed his most prominent mistakes on the test and then spent time relearning the passe compose. Next week, we'll focus intensely on the passe compose."
"We went over her conditional homework. We then worked on exercises that I brought. We talked about adding sessions in preparation for her final and what she wanted to work on as she prepares for her final."
