How can Elementary Math tutoring help you?

Math is one of the core foundations of a student's education. Mathematics follows a student throughout their academic journey, and that journey begins in elementary school. The level of success a student enjoys in elementary math is indicative of how well they will do in future, more advanced math courses. After all, without a solid understanding of the basics, how can a student try to succeed at trigonometry, algebra, and geometry when they reach middle school and high school? That is why it's crucial that students develop a good understanding of elementary math early on. This isn't always easy, and some students require assistance outside of the classroom. If your child is one of these students, consider partnering them with a personal elementary math tutor. They could help your child overcome their learning obstacles and get up to speed in their elementary math class. Varsity Tutors can help you find a skilled, independent tutor near Warwick, RI, who can guide your child on the path toward elementary math understanding.

A private elementary math tutor in Warwick can work with your child to try to get them back on track in their class. Whether your child needs help with a specific element of their elementary math class, or they are in need of a comprehensive review of their class in its entirety, a personal elementary math tutor can be a great resource. They could help your child understand topics like volume, addition, and length. They will review the order of operations with your child so they are ready to participate in class. They can go over whole numbers, shapes, fractions, or whatever topic it is your child is struggling to comprehend. A personal elementary math tutor will be committed to helping your child achieve their goals and be successful in their math endeavors.

Session Summaries by Elementary Math Tutors

Warwick, RI Elementary Math tutoring
For this session, the student completed his homework, which consisted of reading comprehension and studying for a Religions of the World test. He did an excellent job with his reading comprehension homework. He struggled with the religion concepts and remembering the words and concepts of each. We created a chart to compare the 3 religions and this seemed to help. He would benefit from continued studying before the test. He also practiced adding his 7s. He was able to finish 20 problems in 2 min on his third try. Great job!

The student and I went over the concept of telling time and counting change. He did a great job today and had an outstanding day for someone his age. Most children don't go into the full concept of time and money until 2nd grade. He was able to tell what time it was on various examples that I provided for him. Counting quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies was more of a challenge for him. When we got past .99 cents, I had to tell him we start saying 1 dollar. He was able to organize the change and count the exact amount. I would like to bring over dollar bills and change next time. He will need these skills every day when he gets older, so I am very glad we went over these concepts today.

The student and I began with math today. He had two pages of multiplication that he felt were pretty daunting, but when I showed him how to use place value to multiply numbers with hundreds and thousands, he was able to speed through 88 problems in less than 10 minutes, and without a single mistake! We moved on to spelling, where he struggled with stress when timed. However, when we went back through the same list without me telling him I was timing and he took the time to sound out the words, he did much better. I've noticed that he generally understands his assignments, but if he feels pressured about time or rushed, then he will get nervous, and his work won't reflect his actual skill. This is something we're addressing.

The student's math class is still working on multiplication and division of long equations. She also started learning her 9's. First, we reviewed some of her homework, which covered rounding and then went over equations such as 5x2x4. Then, I had her write out her multiples of 9's, and we said them aloud so that she could familiarize herself with them. Then, we continued reviewing her homework, which included word problems that require you to write out the equation you used to solve. I also made multiple practice word problems for her to do, considering word problems previously were not a strong area for her. I tried to use 9's in the examples to further practice her multiples. Her grades are improving, and we are so excited!
