"The student and I worked on math core concepts today. We began by returning to the concept of exponents to discuss the various operations involved in adding, multiplying, and raising powers to/with other powers. He seems to be catching on. I have assigned several practice problems for him to work on in order to practice the material. We spent the second hour covering the components of triangles. We did this by defining what makes up a triangle, how various degrees work in a triangle, how there are different triangles based on various segment lengths, how to match corresponding segments to angles, and how to find the perimeter and area of a triangle. This led us to a discussion on right triangles and their special properties of an exact base and height for area purposes, a talk about what a hypotenuse is, and what the Pythagorean Theorem is. This last part seems to be new information for him, and it's key for him to know for the exam, so we will continue where we left off next week by talking about special right triangles in relation to the theorem."
"The student still isn't feeling great today, so we took a slower pace and focused on content for reading and science. She did great on the reading, but had a bit more trouble with some science concepts. We focused on the importance of underlining hypotheses and taking a second to understand the differences in comparative passages. She's taking a full practice test this weekend."
"We continued to review SAT reading comp (passages, vocal, tips, etc.) in context of the PSAT he had taken. We are learning new strategies for test-taking. I have asked him to continue to review practice problems and vocab this weekend before we meet next. The student needed help most with rushing through problems a bit."
