"The student and I went over problems pertaining to conservation of momentum, conservation of energy, and the work-energy theorem. We mainly focused on how to attack each problem, which involved setting up diagrams for each phase of the problem with appropriate equations. She did really well integrating the concepts, especially since they are not thoroughly taught in class."
"We spent the session on waves. We specifically covered standing waves: how to determine the number of wavelengths on a wave fixed at two ends or one end. She was a little confused about the meaning of "fixed", but we were able to clear it up. We also looked at problems with the Doppler effect and sound power, intensity and intensity level. She seems good with the Doppler effect, but we had to do a couple of examples with intensity before it made sense. I recommended going through problems from the last few chapters to review for the second midterm. We will go over anything she doesn't understand next time."
"Today we covered motion in 1-D and the displacement formula. The student picked up the material quickly, but had trouble with the concept of acceleration as a vector. After a lot of practice problems, he got his confidence up and he improved when we grounded the conceptual idea of acceleration with the displacement formula. On another exciting note, he got a 98 on the test we prepared for."
