"We worked on the student's research paper of a state the student chose. She finished her conclusion and wrote her introduction."
"Today, the student needed help learning 10 new vocabulary words ending in "ance" or "ence." He needed to write sentences that put the word in context, and I helped him. I advised him to do future work in a setting with fewer distractions and to work on his spelling."
"The student and I covered the types of writing styles and I asked her which one was her favorite. She chose narrative - where the student tells a story. She went on to tell me that she has a wild imagination, but that is not necessarily a bad thing because with imagination comes creative ability and that leads to many inventions in our modern era. I gave her a descriptive prompt, "In 100 words, create your ideal place." Finding out that she has traveled a lot, I gave her this descriptive prompt: What's your idea of a perfect vacation. She really went to town on this prompt by describing a place that had snow, you could build snowmen, and throw snowballs at family members. She provided a topic sentence for her paragraph, then topic sentences with vivid details following the topic sentence. She also included some figurative language in her paragraph. She is definitely an accomplished writer when it comes to descriptive essays. I hope she will be just as accomplished in her informative and opinion essays (that is what the State Assessment is based on) which we will start going through tomorrow."
