Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today in chemistry, we covered percent composition, stoichiometry, charges, types of chemical reactions, and balancing. Student is very positive and tries to figure out the problem. I would like to make sure that her fundamental grasp on covalent bonding, charges, and VE are strong. Student grasps quickly the steps to take to solving a specific type of problem. I spent a lot of session explaining the 'why' we take each step."
"The student and I went over circuits today. We talked about her test on static electricity and how she felt that she did, then we did her homework on current electricity. I explained to her that electricity is very lazy and it always takes the path of least resistance. The homework was all about drawing simple series circuits and the student seemed to grasp the concept very quickly. We went over some bonus questions that I had for her. Overall a great session."
"Today's session picked up where our last session left off on discussing acid and base chemistry. I assigned him some additional practice problems on dilutions and concentrations which he had finished prior to our session. We went over these together and then moved on to discuss the material in the remaining sections in the chapter. As we were going over the material, I was writing down some general notes that he can reference while completing his work. He is still not at the point where he can complete his writing at a pace that works with the time restraints of our sessions so for now, we will continue working on his writing while I jot down some notes of material covered during our time together. The student did much better remembering and reciting concepts learned from the material when asked a conceptual question than he did during our last session. We went over how to predict products of an acid-base reaction and did multiple practice problems involving these concepts as well as some concepts previously discussed in other chapters. He did very well with completing the problems and was able to write out his information at a decent pace today. He is getting faster and faster every time we meet. I hope to get him to a writing pace that will allow him to take notes in class, so we work on this every time we meet. Next week he should have his score back from the test he recently took so we can go over any incorrect answers and dissect the reasons why he may have got the answer wrong."
