Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For this session, the student completed a handwriting assignment focusing on magic c letters. We reviewed lessons 46 and 47 in the math book and corrected a few problems. We reviewed multiplication of three-digit by two-digit numbers using area math, and introduced division using a new method and comparing it to the typical method. She needs to continue to practice the area math with three digits, but has a good grasp of the concept. She needs to continue to practice division and increasing her recall of multiplication facts. She has shown good improvement with speed and accuracy of her subtraction facts, so for homework, she will begin working on speed of multiplication facts. We reviewed new vocabulary words, and she will complete the vocab assignment as homework. She has a page of handwriting as homework, as well. She will continue to work on the math with one lesson per day. She continues to be motivated and works hard during our sessions."
"In today's session, the student finished a problem set for his summer math assignment, then completed four practice tests I made that cover the material he has gone over by himself thus far. I am going to grade them next time so we can better evaluate how he is doing."
"Math and reading concepts were covered today. The student reached a milestone. She is now able to recognize the number words from one through five. It was an exciting moment. Our two weeks of work paid off. Strategies we used included pattern making, oral practice, and guided practice. In reading, we started a new story today, while continuing with the short vowel a sound. I also introduced the short vowel i sound. We also focused on the consonants q, r, and s. Additionally, we listened to stories and answered comprehension questions. She was very happy and enthusiastic today. Strategies included oral reading, guided reading, making connections, comprehension checks, guided practice, context clues, sounding out, and blending."
"Over the tutoring session, Student 1 and I covered exponents and reviewed parts of an equation. The student was eager to learn and did a great job covering the material and reviewing it. We used the iPad for a lot of instruction, and he really liked it. Student 2 and I were able to review some multiplication strategies, work on some practice problems, and play a game."
"Overall, it was a very relaxed and helpful session. I had the student very briefly observe the No-Calculator and Calculator Permitted sections of his SAT book, and was able to see where his confidence and struggles lie in the Math area of the test. After taking observation and giving feedback, we uncovered that he has the tendency to overcomplicate some of the problems while simply forgetting a couple of minor topics, in addition to some general word problem difficulty."
"Pythagorean theorem practice. The student is doing very well. He did some solving for angles, simplification testing order of operations. Taught him absolute values. Worked on solving for one variable for the remainder of time."
