Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked more with polynomials, end behavior, and sketching graphs. The student took a quiz recently but the grade has not come back. Before this session she was having a hard time with a lot of the material, but I think we broke through this time. It seems she is a visual learner, so using graphs was what I think did the trick. I left her some extra practice this session. No major concerns this time since we finally seemed to make a lot of progress."
"Today was my first session with the student. I met with the family to discuss the student's current math skills and his academic goals, and then we went over his current homework and targeted some topics to address first."
"Reviewed study packet of first few chapters, he will continue this packet and ask questions during tomorrow's session. Doing great, one more final review session and he is done with classes for the summer"
"I asked the student what she wanted to cover and she asked for multiplying fractions. I brought my pre-algebra textbook and we covered almost a whole chapter on mostly multiplying and dividing fractions. This was our first session and I left her 10 practice problems similar to what we covered to work on until the next session."
"We did homework 5. Using Lagrange's theorem to find the maximum and minimum of a function with one and two restrictions, finding the maximum and minimum by the second partial derivatives. Working online."
"We continued work on time. The student has minor trouble distinguishing between the hour and minute hand, and gets confused when she should count by "5s" for minutes. However, we did a simple word problem with time at the end of the session (i.e.: Jill showed up at 3:30, Jack showed up at 4:45, how much time passed between the two) and I was pleasantly surprised at how well she did."
"We covered trig identities, inequalities, and some general issues that the student had with problems she got wrong on her practice exams. She mainly struggled with getting the problems started, but once I walked her through the first step, she got the rest rather easily. The student has some practice exams that she is going to work on over the next few days before our next session, and she is going to prepare those questions for me for our next session."
"Reviewed for the students math final exam. Topics included radicals, exponential functions, logarithms, trig functions involving the unit circle, and statistics. She remembered all the topics from recent months so we focused on material from January/February. She was able to focus and work through the problems quickly and accurately. She's received A's throughout the year, so she shouldn't be worried at all about the final."
"Covered practice exam for final coming up. Reviewed simplification and factoring of equations, problems involving logarithms, calculating compounding interest and solving single variable equations. Student will review more practice problems before we meet next time."
"Today the student and I prepared for his final exam that's going to be held on Tuesday. It entails everything we've covered dating back to last February. He was very strong in knowing the material except he needed more practice in probability and inverse functions. I left him with examples to work on for practice in those 2 subjects."
"We spoke about topics she wanted to review in more detail, but she wanted to focus the session on completing a lot of practice problems. I used each problem as a teaching point, reminding her of similar problems we had covered and teaching/ reviewing more material. I tried to help the student feel confident in her math abilities and helped her plan the rest of her studying. I stated that I would be available by phone or email should she want to contact me before the exams."
"We went over the student's recent homework packet involving factoring. We went over general factoring techniques as well as how to recognize special factors. We also reviewed the previous unit in order to prepare for a make-up test involving solving and graphing quadratic functions. Overall, the student seemed to understand the material we went over very well."
