Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We continued working with polynomials, this time also doing systems of equations. Still no scores or grades available. No extra practice was needed along with what he already has available."
"This was a session that focused on Algebra support for the student. The student and I focused on multiplying and dividing variables with exponents in the form of fractions. We spent the hour working on problems contained within his Algebra book. For the next session, the student and I will be covering sections of the book dealing with Quadratic Equations. At that time he will be given extra work to help him when he has free time between sessions."
"We worked on some shell and disc solutions for calculating volumes generated by rotation of a figure. Prior to her test on Wednesday I felt the biggest challenge she would face was reasoning out the correct radius lengths for those rotations (so I mentioned that)."
"The student and I went over some problems she encountered from her Algebra practice set, mostly involving basic probability and geometry. We also went through some preparatory material for her Biology test and she seemed comfortable with most of the material."
"The student worked on word problems for the first half of the session, dealing with sales commission and time/distance/rate. She showed a strong ability in solving these types of problems. For the second half, we worked on properties of exponents (how to multiply exponents with the same base, divide, and raise to another power)."
"We covered correlation coefficients. He has taken this class before and he said he usually fails the tests because he is not sure what the questions are asking. So I gave him some pointers, like go over the review and work the problems out, and show work if need be. I mention the fact that not everything will be black and white, they will use big words or the "proper" definitions when referring to something. We will continue to review this concept until he feels he has mastered it."
"The student asked me to do another math refresher with her. Today we went over trigonometry, equations of lines, equations of circles, and more general algebra practice. I wrote her several worksheets - one for each topic."
"The student and I went over material that will tested on her final exam. We covered topics from limits that involved using L'Hopital's Rule to finding area bounded by two curves. She appears ready for the exam."
"We covered review for exam. The student was given a review sheet which covered simplifying rational expression and solving rational expressions for the variable X or Y."
"Tutor went over materials that will be shown on the final study guide as student informed tutor that the exam will be on Tuesday next week. Tutor went over examples in text books on major concepts. Specifically, the review session was about using the logarithmic integrals."
"We covered mostly linear programming problems (about 6 in total) and some graphing at the very end. The student definitely started to understand what was going on as we continued through the problems. She certainly has the algebraic manipulation skills (i.e. solving/rewriting equations). She showed significant improvement through the course of the lesson."
"Reviewed for the student's quiz. Trying to instill in him more independence and confidence while taking assessments so that he will not be stressed during the exam. Displaying consistency in approach, review and performance throughout the course are of high importance."
