"A review of the preview sessions was done, along with end of chapter questions "like" terms and solving for x. The next session focused on inequalities and solving for x, with sign change when dividing x by negative numbers. The student seemed to already know this concept well and how to graph the problems. With previous practice of solving for x, he got the hang of solving them. We once again did our 1015 minutes of "like" term additions along with exponents of x and their simplifications (multiplication, division), which I think he is getting much quicker at and more confident about."
"After a presession meeting with the student, we decided that testtaking practice and strategies would be the focus for this initial session. I preloaded several practice questions, which she was asked to solve first. At each step of the way with each question, we discussed the process for finding the correct solution. We also talked about what went wrong when she reached an incorrect answer. The entire session was spent with me providing guided practice and offering testtaking strategies. She is an extremely bright young lady and was able to grasp the material rather easily. When she did struggle a bit, she asked pertinent questions to gain complete understanding of the concept. I also emailed her some practice questions, and we will discuss them during our next session. She expressed that she felt that the session went really well, and I agree. We accomplished a lot during our first meeting."
"After evaluating the student's answer responses to his upcoming practice quiz and verifying its accuracy, we jumped straight to basic operations with mixed fractions, decimals, and number operations in their successive order."
"After getting to know each other for a bit, we went over a number of problems from the student's summer review packet. They involved order of operations, solving for an unknown variable, using substitution to solve equations, and graphing data from simple equations."
