Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was our first session, so to begin, I got a sense of where the student was and what her goals are. To start I went over the different sections of the test and generally what is on it. We then covered rocks, minerals and earthquakes. I explained each topic and had the student take notes. We also did a few practice problems. I asked her to buy the book I use so that she could do some practice problems for homework. She seemed to have a good understanding of all the concepts that we covered."
"We continued reviewing by going through free response questions. We went through gas laws (PV=nRT, partial pressure, kinetics), bonding, atomic theory, and thermodynamics. The student is improving on applying her knowledge to answer the questions, as well as articulating the responses properly. However, she needs to work on identifying and listing the correct units and significant figures more intuitively, as this is a place most students struggle which will costs points on her midterm and the AP exam. We'll work on that in our next session."
"We went over exam questions the student had troubles with, in order to prepare her for her exam tomorrow. The topics we covered consisted of quantum mechanics and quantum numbers, balancing equations, redox reactions, melting point, and neutralization reactions. She had an overall great attitude and eagerness to learn the material in order to succeed."
"Tonight, the student and I continued reviewing math for the exam. We also started with probability and statistics. We continued to stress the importance of utilizing the handbook by looking up keywords from the problems."
"We continued with weather. I showed a few videos on atmospheric pressure, how to read a barometer and how an anemometer works. We did more passages from the review book and I also prepared questions on pressure, humidity and dew point. We also started cold and warm fronts."
"Today the student had a set of bonus questions to look over. We got through those pretty easily, so we had extra time to spend with practice exam questions. He did a good job with everything, and there were no obvious issues, so I'm feeling confident about his abilities with this material!"
