Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In today's session, we studied exponent rules and practiced problems involving various presentations of power laws. We briefly went through algebraic concepts the student had learned in school and requested extra help on. We worked on problems involving the application of exponential manipulation in algebraic equations. I will send him homework to help him practice, retain, and gain speed with the content covered."
"This week, we covered comprehension from the first four chapters of The Petit Prince. I had the student recount the story to me in French, using the past tense. He has the tendency to switch tenses, so we focused on him sticking to one tense when recounting a story, notably, the past tense. We covered chapter 5, slowly, and I made sure that he understood the comprehension. This took about an hour to do. I gave him the assignment to try to pronounce the "r" sound, even if it sounds weird. I let him know that pronunciation will help in his ability to comprehend and speak the language."
"We went over limits and continuity for her test tomorrow. We covered finite and infinite limits. We solved graphically, algebraically and by using left and right handed limits. We went over a few challenge problems at the end."
"The student and I spent the session working through several practice problems relating to kinematics, newtonian forces, torque and circular motion. He was having a bit of trouble getting back into the swing of setting up problems and manipulating equations, so we worked several example questions and passages breaking down the process and strategy for approaching physics questions. The student was quick to diagnose his mistakes and errors in thinking, which is a very encouraging sign and shows with practice with has a great potential to improve his skills to the level necessary to perform well on the MCAT."
"The student went back to school this week, so he's getting back into the swing of things! For our session, we focused on his homework that had to do with number sense. Specifically, it involved breaking out larger numbers into tens, thousands, tens of thousands, etc. Overall, he did a really good job."
"Today we continued our review of the general chemistry section covering HH, acids and bases, pH, buffers, titration curves, and we started on thermodynamics. We will pick up at the same point in our next session on Tuesday. As always, I'm available by email for any questions that may arise."
