"The student and I worked on English and math. He is showing improvement in both areas and seems to be grasping some concepts quickly. Some of the more difficult problems (particularly word problems) seem to throw him on math, and we have discussed countermeasures to remedy this issue. His English has improved significantly."
"Today, the students and I worked on vocabulary and essay writing. I thought the students were working on their vocab visuals on their own time, but I hadn't reinforced that enough, so they need to continue to do that! Otherwise, we meet frequently, so I'm not worried."
"We covered vocabulary for B/P words. We used story-telling to learn the vocab, and I had the students act out vocabulary phrases. The students seemed to catch on to this very quickly. I also started using a sticker sheet to track the students' progress, giving them stickers when they did well on activities."
"Today I timed the student while he did some reading questions. I found that he was able to answer about 30 questions in 25 minutes, and he only got four questions wrong going at that rate."
"The student and I looked over an assignment he's working on that was having error tolerance issues. He discovered a way to make the game more robust, but he had some difficulty implementing a countdown timer (which he eventually got working) and keeping the game window open after a loss. We will continue going over the project tomorrow evening."
"Today was my first lesson with the student. We each introduced ourselves and ran through 2/3 of an ACT math section. He has a lot of good instincts, but he has sort of a confidence issue. I'm going to teach him a lot of good approaches to different problem types, and I'll try and help him gain some confidence. He sometimes does the right thing but makes tiny mistakes, which make the whole answer wrong. I told him to slow down a bit and double-check his work. For next time, I'm having him finish the section and do another one."
