Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student got a good score on her most recent test. We looked over the problems she missed and worked similar practice problems. We talked about using a compass to bisect angles and line segments. Last, we talked about the best way to study for tests with geometric proofs. I will work on some flashcards for postulates and theorems and give them to her next week. She has a good attitude and is working hard."
"The student got a test back, and she scored a 94. The two questions she missed were due to rushing and a misunderstanding of a more conceptual nature, so we reviewed these. Next, she has a test on polynomials, and thus we reviewed all the different mathematical operations one can do with polynomials, as well as the basic qualifications of polynomials."
"The student got an 87 on a recent test, and--here's the kicker-- she wants to retake it because "I can do better." I'm so proud!! Her confidence level has grown by leaps and bounds. We're doing polynomial long division today, which is complicated, but her teacher has a great method of explaining, and I'm impressed. She's picking it up quickly. Great job!!"
"The student had a review sheet to do for his test tomorrow on solving systems of linear equations. We solved the equations by graphing, by substitution, and by elimination. He also solved linear inequalities by graphing. After he completed the review sheet, I went over the quiz with him. I think he will do fine on the test tomorrow if he takes his time and checks his work for minor errors in calculations."
"The student had a test this week that he learned about after our meeting last week, and so unfortunately we did not have a chance to prepare. His performance showed a relative improvement, though, and I informed him that if a similar situation pops up in the future, I'm happy to try to find a time to meet earlier than our normal schedule so he can perform on the test at his best level. We covered the next lesson in his textbook and then worked through a review of his homework assignments for the week. The student has been working hard, and I'm pleased with his commitment to good effort during our session."
"The student had an online practice test to complete on triangle centroids, incenters, and circumcenters, to prepare him for the real exam. He needs to memorize the difference among the points of concurrency, and the rules for medians, angle bisectors, and altitude classification. We will continue to work on that. He was able to find congruent sides and angles very easily, and did well with all of the vocab."
