Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student was actually excited to play a game I call "Math Scrabble" where we create equations off of each other and incorporate her math facts and challenging concepts. For this session I introduced her to order of operations, adding and multiplying with fractions, reciprocal and reviewed prime numbers. She caught on quick and is retaining a lot. I think her enjoying math is a big part of her reluctance to do math, so I try to make it a fun experience. She said she has extra practice math she is doing which is great, and we will try to work with some of that next week."
"The student was confident when finding the LCM, and he was able to move through the problems a bit quicker. Now would be the time for the student to really study his multiplication facts. If he remembers his cues he should be ok. Extra practice for the student includes a worksheet to practice GCF and prime numbers."
"The student was especially enthusiastic today. We worked on comparing and ordering decimals which she seemed to be a pro at already. We then worked on reviewing for her test on Thursday of this week, which was number line representation of decimals, writing decimals as fractions and vice versa, and writing decimals in standard form, word form, and expanded form. We covered all the areas, and she seemed pretty confident. More practice on expanded form of decimals is needed. Overall she was confident. We talked about being calm and not anxious or nervous during her test. "
"The student was having trouble with division of decimals, so we went over several different types of problems. She verbally processed the steps for me to see where she was struggling. I will check next time to see if she still has mastered it."
"The student was very motivated to work! Slowing down when reading and asking identifying questions showed that she could arrive to the correct answers. Practice and consistency will greatly improve her comprehension in no time!"
"The student went through three problems covering the UPSE model. She did very well, but still needs to focus on exactly what the question is asking her to solve instead of just starting to solve what she thinks it's asking. She is clearly very smart and working very hard on mastering this technique, and will have it mastered in no time!"
