Went through the student's AERIES and made sure that all assignments were accounted for. The student's grades are improving due to submitting late homework, but we still need to work more on keeping him focused and actually interested in the work. Watching him do math/English/science shows me that he is clearly competent and good at these, but he has noted that he struggles sometimes to stay focused in class and to focus on the quizzes. Worked with him on Algebra and discussed squares/cubes, order of operations, lowest common denominator. He works faster with the math now, and doesn't make mistakes very much anymore, but needs to work on working on ALEKS more every night so he can improve speed and accuracy. Went over math strategies and things that he was more confused about.

Writing inequalities was the concept covered. I did not leave the student with any extra practice. I did not see any grades, but the student said she made a 104 on her math test. The student was eager to schedule her next appointment.

Yesterday, we worked on both math and English. For the math portion, we also practiced logic for deciding which way the inequality sign faces. We practiced steps for solving inequalities as well. Regarding English, the lesson was over subject-verb agreement in sentences with third person singular, the word there, and prepositional phrases. He made some mistakes on the first pass through so we went through and corrected them and then we practiced taking notes on what each exercise was teaching us with examples for each.

You really rocked those exponents tonight! As we move into scientific notation, remember to take it one step at a time and think about whether the number is larger or smaller than 1.

The student and I worked on finding the volume of 3D objects using volume formulas. We did a few practice problems on the online platform together to find the missing variable of the volume equations, and then I found a few online games for him to try on his own. When he was working on his own, he wasn't doing as well on the online practice games as when we were working together, so next week, I'm going to work together with him more on solving the problems to make sure he really grasps the concept before I give him any problems to do on his own.
