Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In today's session I assisted the student in a number of subjects. We began by developing a source list for an upcoming project he has on Somalia. We found 4 sources covering 3 different source types. We then worked to prepare for his upcoming quiz in math. The main focus of our study guide was dealing with negatives signs throughout the problem. I left him with a study tool that would help train him through these concepts."
"Today we looked at the RAPP reading/writing strategy, the student did his homework, and we reviewed the materials he had from school. We discussed organizational strategies to try and help him remember everything and to help him establish a routine that works for him. This week he will write down all of his assignments and put his work in his book-bag once he writes down/receives his homework. His mom will check his agenda when he gets home. The student read one and a half chapters of his non-academic reading aloud and then began to fill in a book report graphic organizer that is due when he finishes reading the book. He reads well, but also needs to slow down and focus on the exact text. We discussed strategies to prepare for his 1-3 vocabulary unit test at the end of the week (10 words a day to spell, define and/or try to use in a sentence). He did a great job today!"
"During this session, the student and I worked on his science and literature PowerPoint presentations for school next week."
"The student worked on her timeline project. We discussed past tense verbs and basic grammar. Spelling patterns in words were also discussed as well as letter forms."
"During this session we focused on the student's math homework and her vocabulary words. We worked on writing number sentences using pictures and stories. We worked on creating "number families." We also worked on her vocabulary words. I would say a word I would like for her to spell out and I would place 6-8 letters on a table and it was her task to spell the word when I sounded out the word. This activity would help teach her how to spell the word and also about different letter sounds. We also clapped the word out letter by letter to reinforce the spelling of the word and we looked at words that were similar such as hot and not."
"We worked on vocabulary words and sentences homework. I used vocabulary flashcards to introduce new words. We worked on math. We read from a book. We played a learning game. The student's mother and I discussed concerns regarding his grades, especially in math. He made an A on his vocabulary test that I prepped him on and he was very proud."
