Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went through the material she's covered so far in class. She seems to have a handle on things so far and was able to answer most of the problems without help from me. We talked about the basic concepts behind what statistics is used for and how the problems relate to the ideas of statistics. We also talked through some of the trickier problems she was given. The class will cover more difficult material in the coming week, so we did a quick preview of what she will be seeing."
"The student continued working on the first take home examination. He spent the majority of the time working on using the linear regression model to predict outcomes of "y" when given "x." He plotted the residual values (observed value minus model expected value) and found the standard deviation of the residuals."
"We covered Chapter 7 which included sampling, polls, sizes, etc. He reported that his first test consisted of two parts, one of which he received a 77% and another he received an 81%. Overall grade in the class is now around an 86%, which is pleasing."
"The student and I continued reviewing for his exam on Friday. After practicing some problems dealing with hypothesis intervals for proportions, we moved onto similar problems for population means. Tomorrow we will cover hypothesis tests for variance and standard deviation, and potentially review older lessons on confidence intervals."
"Today we did review for the math exam tomorrow. The student already was pretty solid on this material (mostly trig), so I helped him review everything and we talked about tricks and shortcuts that will make his work faster and more accurate. I think he's going to do a great job on this test! Let me know if you have any questions, and thanks!"
"We had another review session. We went through examples of the normal distribution and normal approximation to the binomial. She knew most of the material and didn't need much direction."
