"The student did very well on his quiz, which came at the end of class. Prior to that, we worked on the Chapter 20 grammar and covered some constructions that he had not seen before, including the one for marking time (de shi hou). I have asked him to look into picking up a Chinese-English dictionary. I would recommend a basic study dictionary. Something like that should be available at any new bookstore. Next week, we will continue working on our new unit and go cumulatively through the preceding chapters' grammar."
"Today, we had a good lesson; we first warmed up with "five chess" to review dialogue and verbs, and then we practiced a Q & A, as well as basic conversations. We practiced saying the numbers; today's record was all the way to 160. At the end, I gave them a quiz which we practiced writing all of the characters, and they did ok. Their homework is to correct all the mistakes and write those 10 times each. "
"We did more practice on speaking and listening skills. I also encouraged the student to watch Chinese videos on YouTube as practice. Examples are presented to show how a phrase can have multiple different meanings due to the context. As usual, he is focused and engaged. He also reported that he is doing well with grades in class. No concern."
"We finished lesson one and part 2 of lesson two. The student did good job on listening, speaking and reading. For next class, we will put some time to work on her writing part. Her homework is to finish workbook: lesson one and part one of lesson two."
"We first began with the quiz on the numbers, where I reminded the student to write the character properly to avoid confusion. I introduced her to the second row of the Chinese alphabet. Next, we reviewed more on the tones, an area where we need to continue to work on. Then, we talked about the number rule. Last but not least, we began radical recognition. Overall, she is great at spelling out the Pinyin and number recognition. We will continue work with tones and radical usage."
"We introduced ourselves and I introduced about Mandarin to the students. We learned some basic greeting words and how to say mom and dad. I asked the students to teach their parents how to say these words in Mandarin as an assignment."
