Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over derivatives for the most part. Most of the equations we went over were derivatives that were not in normal format. I worked with him on how to put functions into normal format so that they are easier to derive. I think he understands the concept for the most part, and it really just comes down to practice from here."
"Today we prepared for the final exam. New topics included matrix addition/multiplication, computing inverses/determinants, and expansion by co factors. We also covered discrete math such as sequences, series, sigma notation, and partial sums. We quickly reviewed old topics, including trig functions, law of sines/cosines, and transformations of transcendental functions."
"The student and I started to review for her pre calculus final that will take place next Wednesday. She has several review packets to go over before then. Today we went through the definition and properties of exponentials and logarithms. We started talking about polar coordinates and will continue that topic next Monday. She is really solid when it comes to the first topic, but wants to spend more time covering polar coordinates and conics."
"The student received a 65 on his last precalc test, so we spent the first half of our session going over test corrections. He was having trouble with trig identities including double angle identities and applying the unit circle to solve algebraic problems involving trig functions. We also briefly worked on vector problems. The rest of our time we spent on matrix functions, including adding and multiplying basic matrices. He definitely improves with a tutor's instruction."
"This was my final meeting with the student for the semester. He had yet to take his pre calculus final so we focused on that. He was comfortable with most of the material but had a good idea of what he wanted to focus on more, trig identities. We spent most of our time working through a series of problems and I think that the strategies we used should be helpful for him come exam time. We covered a bit of the other material, but the student was more or less comfortable and confident."
"In this section the student and I covered the unit circle and using trigonometric functions to find sides of triangles and ratios of triangles. The student was struggling the most with understanding how to use SOH CAH TOA. He was attentive to the material. I left the student to study for his unit circle test."
