Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed strategies for the science portion of the test in-depth, as well as touched on several math concepts that threw him on the test. Prior to taking the next test, he should continue to review those math rules and equations, and practice writing essays using sentence variation and literary devices like similes as we discussed."
"We decided to start going over the math required for the SAT, from the beginning, and so started to go through the topics described in the SAT math publication. We spent most of the time on probability, numerical nomenclature, and percentages."
"We picked up where her tutor left off, focusing on preparing for her test on genetics on Tuesday. She had a lot of material to cover, so I had her demonstrate her knowledge in the different areas, then worked on the area where she knew the least. We focused on Punnet squares and inheritance and did a broad overview of the other topics."
"The student and I met and went over what he needs to do before the end of the term. We reviewed a late paper for Medieval Literature that he had nearly finished. I asked him to clarify a few points and encouraged him to include a few more quotations from his primary text. When we parted, he had only to write the concluding paragraph. He planned to turn the paper in that night. We scheduled another meeting in two days."
"Today the student had A LOT of writing homework, so we discussed it together. He identified the author's opinion in a book review, then he added opinion sentences to the review. Afterwards, he had to write his own book review. We reviewed several sentences using linking words (and, because, also) and finally wrote a paragraph about his book, Substitute Creature. We had a little time left, so we made more arrays. He rolled two dice and one die became the # of rows and the other die told him how many in each row. He constructed two arrays, 5 x 6 and 4 x 5."
"The student and I continued to work on a particular type of LR question that she has struggled with in the past. She is doing better on these questions now and is improving overall on that section. After that we worked on some of the more difficult logic games questions practicing basic strategy."
