Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we continued to work on fractions and signs. We then continued to work on solving multi-step equations and organizing the steps to unpack our variable in the most efficient way. All previous skills were emphasized, but we also introduced multiplying both sides by a common denominator to eliminate fractions from the equation. Finding the common denominator and distributing it is coming much more easily to the student now, which is a win."
"On this session, we covered many topics like Algebraic properties, Geometric patterns, and Estimations. I helped out with the students' class tests and homework. We did some corrections on the questions the students got wrong. We were really happy working together. At the end of the session the students were graded and given some homework for the next session."
"Our session encompassed a review of the student's preparatory guide test questions spanning from discrete math to geometry. We went over a decent number of questions while covering topics like multiplying square roots, geometry, percentages, exponents, ratios and curvi-linear equations. To consolidate his new knowledge, I asked that he reproduce the solutions to our attempted math problems. With close monitoring of his procedures, he was able to answer correctly 95% of our attempted question set. His processing speed was also quite remarkable. We covered some fraction of the writing and language, and essay writing sections as well. Through constant practice and close supervision, his speed should begin to increase. Ultimately, he is a brilliant candidate about ready to excel."
"Our work today, in preparation for the student's exam, was on logarithms. The student started the session feeling nervous about his test because he felt like his understanding was pretty limited. After working through a set of review problems he showed a clear improvement in understanding and morale. We discussed strategies for using the book to teach the concepts that weren't clear in class, and we also talked about scheduling possibilities for future sessions. Overall, I'm very pleased with his grittiness. I really pushed him, and he was able to stick with these problems until he felt better about his knowledge."
"Power, variable, and algebraic equation evaluation. The student struggled the most with variable and algebraic evaluation. Once he was taught those material, he was able to complete the remaining material after the session. The student is very eager and ready to learn, but he needs to have more arithmetic drills to be able to finish his test on time. I recommended that he practice from his book. After the practice and drills, I believe he will be able to get a B mark, if not an A mark in his future math exams."
"Quick introductions with parents and student. Discussed the student's strengths and weaknesses and areas where the student has been struggling. Spent the remainder of the session working on finding "inverse" equations, what they mean, and how they are graphed."
