I brought the multiplication flashcards and a partially-filled multiplication table for the student to work on. After, we started out with purchasing of items using dimes (with multiplication involved for multiples of one item bought). Then he brought out the second grade math workbook, and we worked on 4-5 worksheets in this book. I asked him to work on practicing multiplication before I saw him again for our next session.

I covered a number of different topics during this session. First, I introduced the student to adding and subtracting more than two numbers at once. She seemed to have some trouble with this at first, but after I broke it down to her step by step, she started to catch on. Then, I introduced her to two digit addition, asking her to add the ones column and then the tens column to get the right answer. The rest of the session was spent on reading and writing exercises. I asked her to read aloud a short passage. She did very well, only having trouble with one word. I then asked her to write a few sentences of her own on any topic. She chose to write her story on "Silly Bunny." She still has some trouble writing letters. She writes a few of them backwards. We will work on this in future sessions.

I covered the following concepts during the session for each student: Student 1: Multiplication facts and adding multi-digit numbers (with lining them up correctly), Reading: reading comprehension. Student 2: provided assistance with Math. Student 1 still struggles with multiplication facts. I showed her the strategy of repeated addition to help her. She was able to add multi-digit numbers efficiently and lined them up according to place value. She did well in reading. She read passages and was asked questions. Her attitude remains positive. For Student 2, he is average on multiplication. For larger numbers, he relies on counting with fingers to get the answer. I showed him using partial products and vertical multiplication to multiply multi-digit numbers.
