Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student continued to work on fractions and finding the common denominator. He needed a quick refresher, then he did great. Additionally, we worked on multiplication tables again. The student did great!"
"Today we worked on filling in the multiplication table from 0s to 6s. The student said that he hadn't worked on the 5s or 6s before, but he did quite well. I explained that multiplication will become easier when he memorizes the table, and that repetition will help with this. Next we moved on to adding 3 digit numbers with regrouping. He was able to complete the problems with very little guidance. I'm definitely seeing improvement! Overall, a great session. Next week he has spring break, so I will see him in 2 weeks."
"Today, we really worked on the student's multiplication tables. I used games like a version of tic-tac-toe and flashcards to help her master multiplication. I also gave her a breakdown of the concept of multiplication. For example: 6 x 3 = 6 + 6 + 6 = 18. I did so to remind her that if she knows that 6 x 5 = 30, but she can't remember what 6 x 6 is, all she has to do is add 6 more to 30. I also used the commutative property to remind her that if she can't remember what 9 x 4 is but she does know 4 x 9, the answer is exactly the same. She is a joy to work with! She was a little shy in our first session, which is understandable, but she is responding wonderfully to the encouragement and praise I give her to build her confidence!"
"The student wanted to prepare for his test on Monday, so we did a review then a mock test. The mock test consisted of 5 problems dealing with logarithmic functions. He worked out one problem halfway and stopped. My assistance with him with those problems consisted of me saying "Ok, how do we start?" or "What do we do next?" He felt more comfortable with me asking those questions. He said he wanted to review more so that is what we did. While reviewing I would throw a few problems at him and ask him to work them and show me what he had done and he showed great understanding of the material. I instructed him to continue practicing for his test on Monday."
"We covered addition and subtraction facts to 20. The student is becoming more confident with flashcards. She was able to complete word problems with ease and is more confident with fast fact pages."
"The student and I reviewed her math packet that was assigned to her this week. Subjects included special triangles, trigonometric ratios, and Pythagorean theorem. She performed well on all sections and is gaining independence. She only really required help on the most difficult problems, but was able to understand their solutions once they were explained."
