I believe that tutoring is different than classroom teaching. Tutoring is a unique opportunity for me to enter a partnership with students aimed at helping them to discover additional skills and confidence to promote their success. I believe that the successful tutor-student relationship requires an agreed-upon structure of mutual respect, and I have found that students are experts at identifying their own learning needs. The tutoring relationship is most important for nursing students because of the nature of nursing practice. Nursing students must be ready for the real world, which means that my work as a tutor is focused on content remediation and "test-prep" for class work and NCLEX success. My favorite part of tutoring is watching students achieve their goals!
My work in the classroom and as a tutor is based on my experiences in graduate school. I completed my BSN and MSN at the University of Texas in Houston and then completed my PhD in Pennsylvania. Most recently, I became certified as a nurse educator by the National League for Nursing and completed a post-graduate certificate in online education from Harvard University Graduate School of Education.
