I got my first library card at age 4, and am still a voracious reader. I have helped students of all ages master complex information and many life and work skills. I have always loved teaching and supporting learning.
I received my B.A. degree in English literature with a mathematics minor for California State University at Los Angeles. I enjoy studying languages and how they work, and love teaching English to new learners of English. I am a credentialed teacher in the state of Washington, and also have a master's degree in Applied Behavioral Sciences from Whitworth College, a graduate program focused on psychology, counseling, leadership, and organizational development.
I started tutoring math in high school, and have taught or tutored in one way or another my entire life. Much of what I have done was teaching the art of using and understanding English, whether speaking, reading, writing, or listening to it. I have taught a broad range of subjects, to both children and adults, from preschool to graduate school. I have also worked as a professional writer and editor, primarily in the software industry.
I have worked with many students who face challenges. I am respectful, compassionate, and can see the strength and beauty of each person behind their difficulties. I enjoy helping students learn new ways to do things, mobilize their inner resources, and create more success and joy in their lives.
