I am a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics in May 2016. While attending college, I became a tutor at the English Institute, where I tutored high school and college students in reading comprehension, grammar, essay writing, and research writing. I'm passionate about assisting students in developing their research essays and improving their reading comprehension skills. My tutoring methods consist of breaking down complex topics into smaller steps so that I can help my students better understand the subject matter. Consequently, they leave my tutoring sessions more knowledgeable about how to complete reading assignments and develop a comprehensive research essay. Moreover, my other tutoring methods involve identifying my students' strengths and teaching them how to utilize their unique skills so that they can excel in their classes. I do my best to encourage my students to use their unique skills in reading and writing assignments because I truly believe anyone can become a knowledgeable reader or an accomplished writer.
Given my distinctive background in linguistics, anthropology, research, and laboratory work, I tend to tutor a broad range of subjects ranging from Middle School Reading to College World History. I oftentimes use my research experience from the Biomedical Electrical Engineering Laboratory at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign to help my students write comprehensive research papers. I understand the rigorous process of crafting an essay, so I teach my students to develop their papers in a manner that will demonstrate their research knowledge on a particular topic. Furthermore, I utilize my extensive anthropology experience from participating in archaeology digs in Belize, Peru, Spain, and Greece to educate students about classical Greek city-states such as Mycenae and Athens, and the cultural beliefs of Mayan city-states like Palenque and Tikal. Moreover, I aim to teach my students how different ancient cultures cultivated crops in order to survive in harsh environments and used different tools to defend their cities from being conquered so that they can comprehend the extent that ancient thinking patterns have on modern-day food practices and military operations. Thus, my educational methods will ensure that my students can understand how ancient civilizations impacted modern nations such as Peru and Spain. By teaching historical events to my students, I hope to develop them into globally conscious citizens capable of making connections with people from all over the world.
