I am a native of Denver, Colorado and a graduate of the University of Colorado (M.M., Music Composition 2001) and the Metropolitan State University of Denver (B.A., Music Education 1998). Since 2008, I have taught music at all levels both in the United States and overseas. As a teacher with a varied background in both music education and music theory/composition, I bring a range of skills, knowledge, and expertise to the role. I am driven to help students achieve their very best and strongly believe that music has the power to change lives - to enhance the social, cultural and spiritual lives of people, and serve as a profound medium of personal expression.
Education & Certification
Undergraduate Degree: Metropolitan State College of Denver - Bachelor in Arts, Music Teacher Education
Graduate Degree: University of Colorado Boulder - Master of Arts, Music Theory and Composition
I am very fond of composing music in my spare time and have earned a few awards in pursuit of my passion. While in college, one of my compositions for SATB choir won the Philip K. Boxer Dramatic Arts Award and placed 3rd in the Schirmer’s Young Composer Contest. Both of these experiences have helped solidify my passion for composition and have motivated me to write for larger forces, such as symphonic band and full orchestra. In addition to composing, I am also an avid reader of books ranging from music history to music theory publications. I feel that reading only enhances my understanding of music and composition.
