I graduated from UC Berkeley in 2018 with a BA in Linguistics and Japanese Language and Culture. I also minored in Korean. I am currently finishing up my MA in Central Eurasian Studies at Indiana University, Bloomington where I study Mongolian linguistics. In the fall, I will begin a Ph.D program in Linguistics at UCLA. Language is my passion, and I enjoy learning foreign languages as well as learning more about my native language, English.
The majority of the students I have tutored have ESL backgrounds. As an undergraduate, I worked for an English language learning startup where I prepared English-language lesson plans for students for use in one-on-one lessons with Chinese high school students. I also taught many students while working for this startup. The rules of English are not always intuitive, even for native speakers, but with a clear goal in mind and a healthy set of laughs, my students and I are always able to emerge from each lesson having made considerable progress.
As a tutor, I place great emphasis on cultivating a healthy relationship between the student and their study subject/study goals. While students may never love the subject, I do hope to create a space for them to confidently approach the subject. I do this by facilitating a positive, constructive, and focused study environment wherein the student can feel comfortable and confident while talking to me, asking questions, and stating their opinions.
Finally, I am a lifelong learner myself, a fact which I believe allows me to better understand the frustrations of the learning process that your student may be experiencing. All throughout my studies, I have made it a point to incorporate travel into my work. I have studied in Japan, South Korea, and Mongolia. I am standing next to a picture of Chinggis (also known as Genghis) Khan in front of the Government Palace in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Education has allowed me access to amazing opportunities around the world. I hope to show students that learning is a process that can open the doors to their dreams!
