I am a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a BS in Chemical Engineering (cum laude) and a MS in Petroleum Engineering. I taught thermodynamics and reservoir engineering at OU. I then spent 40 years as a petroleum engineering, working in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and even 5 years in Alberta, Canada.
I believe that education is very important to the success of individual students and to society. My duty as a teacher is to present the material in a manner that keeps the students engaged by relating the subject material to my life experiences. These experiences are used to demonstrate how the students can apply the material in their careers.
My success is measured by the how the students comprehend the material. My methods to determine this comprehension include asking lots of questions to determine the level of understanding. I use the answers to my questions to focus on the background material that needs review, the speed of presenting new material, and determine the proper assignments to improve the level of understanding.
I aim to help the students in their overall comprehension of their chosen field of study. I currently teach Principles of Chemistry to a group of students that are taking the class as a prerequisite to applying to nursing school at Tulsa Community College. I use examples in class that the students can apply to nursing. My examples for unit conversions include adjusting medication for patients' body weight. I also have been tutoring for 4 years.
While not working, I like to spend time with my grandkids, gardening, and church.
I have now started to teach precalculus and college algebra at TCC.
