I love literature, languages, learning, and building relationships. Holding a B.A. in English and Biblical Studies, my first postcollegiate position was in Japan as a missionary / English teacher. Although my teacher certification is for 7th thru 12th grades, for over 25 years I have taught students of all ages and nationalities. I have also worked in business, coordinated foreign study programs, tutored students in all subjects, taught ESL, and edited manuscripts and research papers on their way to publication. Each year in June I work for the College Board grading essays.
My favorite teaching method is to make the material "come alive" for my students. I have led 7 student field trips to Japan and the United Kingdom. Hands on learning activities, outside the box explanations and applications, and a good dose of humor make for a great learning experience. I believe learning can be challenging and enjoyable at the same time.
My hobbies include gardening, brewing kombucha, learning about DIY beauty products, and spending time renovating my 123-year-old home.
